Experts needed for international Plant Health, Agriculture & Biosciences conference in the Netherlands

World experts on the topics of sustainable horticulture and agriculture, environmental biodiversity and food production are invited to raise global awareness on how plant health can help to secure and improve food supply, reduce poverty, and protect the environment. The call for papers comes in the wake of a unique conference that will take place at the World Forum in The Hague from 9 – 11 September 2020.

The United Nations has declared 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) and both Koppert Biological Systems and CABI, have joined forces to initiate and organize an international event to promote a global conversation on plant health and the future of sustainable horticulture and agriculture.

Creating awareness and support

While CABI represents much of the developing world as well as being a world authority on protecting biodiversity, Koppert has the knowledge and capacity to produce biological solutions. ‘We all want to move forward when it comes to plant health as this forms the basis for sustainable food production systems for the future,’ says Koppert’s Corporate Marketing Director, Peter Maes. ‘In order to achieve this goal, we need farmers, retailers, consumers, legislators, other authorities and relevant NGOs to recognize and embrace this common goal that will benefit us all. Our aim for the conference is to inform and influence all these diverse sectors and create the necessary public awareness for the importance of plant health.’

Calling for papers

The call for papers is now officially open and Koppert invites you to submit a paper either for oral presentation or as a poster. There are four conference tracks covering a wide range of topics:

  • Threats to plant health
  • Plant health practices
  • Plant health innovations
  • The future of food

In line with our aim of bringing a diverse range of stakeholders together, we welcome submissions from both the natural and social sciences, development practitioners, policymakers and regulators and the private sector. Instead of submitting individual papers, organizations are also welcome to submit a proposal for a panel of 3 to 5 speakers.

PHAB 2020 is also working with Springer Nature to publish a special conference edition of the CABI Agriculture & Bioscience open access journal, comprised of papers presented at the conference. When submitting your paper, please indicate whether you would be interested in publishing it in the journal.

Please share the announcement with plant health, agriculture and bioscience stakeholders in your networks. For more information, visit the conference website at https://phab2020.com/.
