Koppert’s Jeremy Webber has an article in the February 2026 issue of GrowerTalks. It’s an insightful take on the bio vs chemical pesticide dynamic. Titled Bios To The Rescue, the piece presents a handful of situations where you can use bios to clean up nightmare pest scenarios without having to dip into your chemical locker.
In the article, Jeremy refutes the often heard statement: “Bios only work preventatively.” He provides an alternate, and in his opinion more accurate, statement and offers evidence to prove his version correct. The author lays out BioSolutions for eradicating three stubborn pests: Western flower thrips (WFT), spider mites, and caterpillars. In an interesting twist, he shares the main reason BCA consultants recommend chemical pesticides for spider mite knockdown.
Jeremy Webber is an IPM expert and the National Ornamental Consultant Team Leader for Koppert, US. He rose through several New England production facilities, and was Director of Operations for a large perennial wholesale nursery. Jeremy’s shipped a wide range of perennials, shrubs, annuals, and edibles with both traditional and innovative treatments.
