A Hybrid Approach to IPM by Jeremy Webber in GrowerTalks Biosolutions Guide 2025

Jeremy Webber makes the case for a hybrid approach to IPM in ornamentals in the GrowerTalks Biosolutions Guide 2025. In A Hybrid Approach to IPM he maintains that it’s not all or nothing, that bios are tools in the toolbox along with a slew of newer pesticides. Discussing them together rather than one versus the other is important because the two work well as a team when designed into a coordinated program, especially in ornamentals.

Jeremy explores the hybrid approach for managing aphids, including the myriad of bio and chemical solutions available and the affordability question. He considers whether pesticides are necessary to combat or prevent spider mites and tackles the same question with regard to western flower thrips in light of the fact that so many biosolutions currently exist and again, affordability. Jeremy also makes an interesting point about the effectiveness of a good mycoinsecticide on thrips, whitefly, and fungus gnats.

What was once a niche approach to greenhouse production has now become mainstream. Biosolutions are top of mind for many greenhouse professionals, and some of the largest greenhouses in North America are adopting and fine-tuning bio-based production protocols. With the industry evolving quickly and new research, information, and products becoming available at an equal pace, GrowerTalks implemented the Biosolutions Guide to shine a light on what they consider to be one of the most dynamic discussions within the horticultural industry.

GrowerTalks Biosolutions Guide 2025 is filled with the latest data, trial results, and innovative approaches proving effective in commercial greenhouse production. Experts who’ve submitted content are leaders in research and applied technology and are constantly challenging the industry to consider new ways to implement bio-based strategies with the end goal of sending amazing quality to market. GrowerTalks has asked industry leaders in the biosolutions space to discuss what’s new and, more importantly, what growers need to know to achieve success with products and approaches rising to the forefront. Biosolutions Guide 2025 includes tons of hard data, fresh approaches, and proven strategies.
