We take pride in our contributions towards meaningful change within our sector
Actively contributing to the world’s SDGs
In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) offered the world a blueprint towards achieving a better and more sustainable future for all.
At Koppert, we believe that sustainable development is essential for the future of our planet. As a leading provider of biological solutions for agriculture and horticulture, we recognize the important role we play in contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals Through our commitment to sustainability, we strive to make a positive impact on the environment, society, and the economy.
How do we contribute to SDGs?
Our day to day activities align with several of the SDGs, particularly those related to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and climate action.
Controlling pests and diseases in the greenhouse using predatory mites and wasps; making plants more resilient by using fungi in the soil, and introducing bumblebees to improve pollination, have all, directly and indirectly, enabled a significant reduction in the use of chemicals in horticulture and agriculture. We not only fight pests and diseases, but actively improve plant health, the health of people working in horticulture and agriculture, and the health of consumers who have access to residue-free produce.
Key SDGs in which we are active:
SDG 2 – Zero hunger
The persistence of hunger for over 800 million people daily is compounded by significant crop losses to pests and diseases. Our biological solutions empower growers worldwide to produce high yield, safe and residue-free crops, addressing food security, safety and agricultural sustainability.
SDG 9 – Industry innovation and infrastructure
Innovation is one of our core activities. Our strength lies in our ability to translate knowledge into practical applications, contributing to the discovery of sustainable solutions. Our research and development endeavors yield groundbreaking discoveries, ranging from natural pest control to advanced monitoring technologies, thereby driving sustainable industrialization.
SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production
With the global population projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, prioritizing responsible production practices is imperative. While our solutions already empower growers to minimize pesticide and fertilizer usage, thereby curbing pollution, we're also transforming our own operations. Our aim is to minimize emissions and reduce energy use, aligning with our commitment to sustainable practices throughout our value chain.
SDG 15 – Life on land
We champion sustainable farming practices by partnering with nature finding solutions to restore and enhance ecosystems. By promoting plant resilience and biodiversity, we combat land degradation and safeguard life on land for future generations.
SDG17 – Global partnerships
We know that in order to get closer to realizing our mission and vision and contribute to the Global Goals, we need to work together. That is why we are open to building relationships, externally as well as internally. Fostering partnerships with academia, research institutions, and fellow businesses, we amplify our impact and contributing to global efforts for sustainable development.
