Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is a particular North American species of cranberry is also referred to as large cranberry, American cranberry or bearberry. The cranberry is indigenous to specific parts of North America, namely the central and eastern part of Canada and the northeastern and north-central areas of the United States. This cranberry is also found in certain regions along the Pacific Coast of North America and parts of Europe. This species of cranberry belongs to the subgenus Oxycoccus and genus Vaccinium.

This species of cranberry qualifies as a shrub and usually grows on the ground surface first and then ascends. The plant produces white or pink flowers and afterwards sour-tasting red or pink berries. The size (diameter) of these berries varies between 9-14 mm or 0.35-0.55 inch. These berries are edible and thus produced commercially.
