When to use Larvanem?

Use Larvanem for the biological control of:

Coleoptera - Weevil larvae
Black vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus and others species Otiorhynchus spp.)

Beetles
European chafer grub (Amphimallon majale)
Common garden chafer grub (Phyllopertha horticola and Phyllophaga spp.)
Amphimallon solstitialis, Hoplia philanthus

Japanese, oriental chafer grub, and Asiatic garden beetle (Popillia japonica, Exomala orientalis, Autoserica castanea)
Dune chafer grub (Anomala dubia)
Serica brunnea, Hoplia spp.
and dung beetles from the genus Aphodius spp. and young larvae of Melolontha melolontha, Amphimallon aestivus and Anoxia villosa

Chrysomelidae
Flea beetle larvae (Phyllotreta spp.)

Lepidoptera
Common swift moth larvae (Korscheltellus lupulina)

How does Larvanem work?

The nematodes enter the pest and release symbiotic bacteria into the body cavity. These bacteria convert the larval tissue into a food source, on which nematodes feed, develop, and reproduce. The host pest dies within a few hours to days after infection. The Infected host turns red-brown but may be difficult to find, due to rapid degradation in the growing media.

Application Larvanem

Preparation
  1. Half an hour before preparing the product, remove the pack from the refrigerator and let it come up to room temperature (20°C)
  2. Break the contents of the sachet (250 million Heterorhabditis bacteriophora) into smaller pieces
  3. Use the entire pack and place the smaller pieces in a bucket containing five liters of water (at 15 to 20°C)
  4. Leave the bucket with the solution to stand for five minutes
  5. Then stir the solution until all the lumps have disappeared before transferring it to the spray tank
  6. Use the spray solution straight away
Application
  • With a watering- can, sprinkler system, backpack spray unit or vehicle-mounted spray unit
  • To avoid blockage, all filters should be removed
  • Use a maximum pressure of 12 bar on spraying boom or pistol
  • The spray nozzle opening should be at least 0.5 mm (500 microns)
  • Continuous mixing should take place to prevent nematodes sinking to the bottom of the spray tank
  • In case of pot application: 5000 nematodes per liter pot volume

Larvanem is compatible with many crop protection products. Check the Koppert side effects app for compatible products, or contact your local representative for advice. As a general rule for tank mixing, always add the nematodes to a fully filled tank containing the compatible product.

Best working conditions Larvanem

  • Soil or air temperature below 5°C (41°F) and above 35°C (95°F) can be lethal – optimum between 19 and 33°C (66-92°F).
  • The moisture content of the soil must be kept high for several days after application. When possible, irrigate the crop before and right after application.
  • Nematodes are susceptible to ultraviolet light (UV): do not use them in direct sunlight.
  • Spray in the evening (or morning in some cases), allowing the nematodes to work for several hours within the optimal range of temperature and humidity as described above.

Handling

1. Immediately upon receipt, take the box out of the shipment parcel.
2. Refrigerate at a temperature between 2°C and 6°C (35-43°F) in a ventilated refrigerator/cold room.
3. Keep away from direct sunlight.

Observe the use-by date shown on the box.
